Additional services

As part of keeping Elite treatments up to date and innovative, consistent CPD (Continuous Professional Development) is a large part of the ethos of the business.

All of these additional extras come at no extra charge and are included if deemed necessary and beneficial to your animals personalised treatment on the day.

As part of your rehabilitation plan, it may be beneficial for you to use some of these modalities continuously for a short period of time following the treatment. In this case the equipment may be available to loan.

Advanced Animal Chiropractic

Francesca has completed her advanced animal chiropractic techniques qualification with the McTimoney animal association. This was a CPD course that span over three days and included both alternative and advanced additional adjustments.

This means that all Elite treatments are now even more in depth or alternative adjustments can be performed where needed if the traditional adjustments can not be undertaken. This is especially great for geriatric and injured animals who may need alternative treatment plans to suit their bodies ability.

Photizo

photizo-danetre-health-logo-768x333.png

Elite Animal Therapy has invested in a Photizo Vetcare to be able to provide further assistance and rehabilitation where necessary.

Photizo works by providing photobiomodulation which is a form of light therapy, in this case, red and infrared light specifically at 633nm and 850nm. This light penetrates the skin to stimulate energy production (ATP) within the targeted cells. This stimulates healing, relieving pain swelling and inflammation, reduces muscle spasms and increases blood and lymph diameter as well as stimulating the production of serotonins and endorphins.

If you would like to buy a photizo for at home use, you can buy a new one through Francesca as a registered practitioner at a reduced price.

Equilibrium Products

2023 saw the addition of the Equilibrium Massage Pad Heatsense to Elite Animal Therapy's toolbox, this goes alongside the already used Massage Mitt Hotspot. Both of these products deliver a combined approach if desired of massage and heat therapy. These have proven especially sought after for pre and post competition work and at the rescues where they actively promote a more relaxed demeanor which is often needed for these animals to then readily accept other modalities of treatment.

Balance Pads

These have been a great addition to treatments. Being a relatively inexpensive item many clients are now adding these into their own tack rooms to use in between treatments after seeing the benefits.

These work by helping to reduce tension, improving balance, coordination and proprioception.

The degree of difficulty can be changed by using blocks with varying densities, angles and by how many limbs are on a balancing block.

Wobble Cushions

IMG_3326.HEIC

Wobble cushions are now a fundamental part of most canine treatments. They work through improving balance, posture, coordination and proprioception as well as improving core strength.

These have been especially useful for my rehabilitation clients such as Rosie the Dachshund with IVDD - if you want to know more check out her case study!

Any remedial exercise or equipment like this is also great for injury prevention which is why they will probably get used during your dog's treatment even if we aren't rehabbing a specific injury or condition. They do however take some active participation unlike Freddie who thinks they make a great head rest!

These can vary in difficulty depending on how firm the inflation is. The limbs we are targeting and what position we have the dog in. You will also see that they have varying sensory textures dependent on which orientation we have the cushion in, this can be great for dogs that need neurological stimulation.

They also come in varying shapes and sizes such as the hedgehogs below, these are much more difficult due to their small shape, higher degree of instability and typically targeting individual feet.

Balance Blocks

These are similar to the wobble cushions but are made from a higher density foam rather than being inflatable, meaning we have more stability.

Again these need active participation unlike Hamish who thinks they need to be lay on - must be a bulldog thing!

TENS

Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) is a form of electrotherapy used for pain relief and improving circulation. This works through the stimulation of nerves blocking the pain signals that get sent to the brain, this is especially important where pain reduction is needed to improve participation in treatment.

Sticky pads called electrodes are placed on the body which then deliver the electrical current which can be altered through the handheld device. Please note ultrasound gel may have to be used to get a good contact for the electrodes, and this this may be trickier on longer haired animals.
